Important classroom Information:

I’m enjoying being able to spend my days with 17 super grade sixes. We are settling into routines fairly well and are learning the ins and outs of life in grade six. Here is a little information on what to expect this year. Please feel free to contact me at the school via phone or email,  if you have any concerns.

1.  Homework

  • An assignment is usually homework if over half the students have finished it during class tiem.
  • Each Friday your child will have a spelling test of about 8-10 words.
  • Reading in  French every night and English at least 3 nights a week.
  • Study guides are sent home before a major test.
  • Study of basic facts (times tables) in Math.
  • Agendas are filled in at the end of the day and I check and initial them before your child leaves.

2. Balanced Literacy

We will be working with the components of the Balance Literacy program in both French and English Language Arts.

3.  Field Trips and volunteers

The following is a list of possible field trips we will be taking in Grade 6. I need two volunteers for each of these trips. If you are a bus driver and would like to volunteer your time for a trip, please let me know.

  • Legislature in Edmonton
  • Odyssium Tour
  • Don’t forget about kitchen help for outdoor education

3.  Outdoor Education

Near the end of May, we hope to again offer our 4-day Outdoor Education sessionat Camp Macinicholea. All grade 6 students – 6 Jones – 6 McDonald, and 6 Cournoyer are able to participate in such classes as – orienteering, games, archery, canoeing, pond study, poetry nature walks, crafts, Geek Rodeos, mini Olympics, and many, many more activities to fill 5 days and 4 nights. Each student pays about $30.00 and the rest of the cost is covered by proceeds from our magazine subscription sales. More information will be sent home about this as the year progresses.  Volunteers are needed to help out in the kitchen and to sleep in the students’ cabins at night.

4.  Proper Weather Wear

Students need an indoor and outdoor pair of shoes everyday at W.E.S. They are expected to go outside at recess and at noon unless it is very inclement weather. As well,  in Phys.Ed., they have many outdoor activities. Please make sure they have toques, mitts and boots (not just runners).

5.Achievement Test Dates
