Aug. 26/21

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow, it is crazy to think that in under one week we will be welcoming your children back to school!  August always seems to go by quickly.  I hope that you and your family were able to take this summer to relax and enjoy the hot weather with family and friends.

  • On Tues. Aug. 31 the following grades will begin classes: Grade 1, 3, 5, French Immersion 1/2 and 5/6.   Please note these students do not have school on Sept. 1.
  • On Wed. Sept. 1 the following grades will begin classes: Grade 2, 4, 6, French Immersion 3/4 and Mrs. Carter’s 1/2 class.
  • Everyone will have class Thurs. Sept. 2/21.

At the August 19th Special Board Meeting, the PHSD Board of Trustees approved a motion that PHSD will be following Alberta Health Guidelines.  At WES the safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance.  Although masks are not mandatory at this time, we will support any students or staff members that choose to wear them.  We are happy to announce that school activities such as intramurals, sports, performances, events etc. can proceed.  We are also no longer required to physically distance or cohort.  Students and staff will need to continue to do the  Alberta Health Daily Checklist before arriving at school.  This will determine how long your child should stay home.

Students with fever, cough, shortness of breath or loss of sense of smell or taste, must stay home and isolate for 10 days.  They can return to school before 10 days if they have a negative COVID-19 test result and feel better.

We will continue to adhere to enhanced cleaning practices and good hygiene such as regular hand washing.  Students, staff and visitors will be expected to sanitize their hands when they enter the school and classrooms.  Custodians will be wiping down high touch surfaces during the school day.  Items that are shared among students will also be wiped down after each use.

Any students (age 2 and up) and adults riding the bus must wear a mask.  This includes to and from school, field trips and sporting events.

When your child arrives at school, we ask that they remain outside until the bell goes and an adult will let them in.  Each class will have a designated place to line up in the mornings and when they come in from recess.  We will also continue with last year’s protocol of having parents wait outside to pick up their child at the end of the school day.

Parents and guardians if you have something to drop off for your child or a message to deliver, please go directly to the office.  Parents are to stay in the office area and we will call down your child.  This is for the safety of our students and staff and less disruptions during instructional time.  If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please arrange with them a time and date to meet.

We are excited to begin another year.  We look forward to the amazing things we have planned and meeting our students.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or with administration.

Sincerely,
